Child Care Homes

“Play is the highest form of research.”
— Albert Einstein

A Homey EnvironmentAT BRIGHT DAYS, we understand that each child is unique and our Early Childhood Educators work with the parents to ensure the smoothest transition possible from the home environment, or previous child care facilities, to our child care homes. Whether it’s extra one on one time, providing a ‘comfort bear’ for the child, or special requirements at meal or nap time, your child will soon feel at home at Bright Days. Our child care homes provide a homey environment for each child as the play areas are located in the home’s living rooms and backyards. Only 6 children are accepted per home. This aligns with government regulations and ensures that the group size is small enough to provide the one-on-one attention that each child deserves.

Meals and snacks, as well as daily arts and crafts, are provided in the kitchen of the home. Naps are taken in play pens in a separate room on the same level, away from the bright windows, lights and noise of the play area.

All areas of the home that children will have access to, both indoor and outdoor, are child-proofed and completely safe for the appropriate age group at that home. The homes are set up to ensure a safe, fun, and dynamic environment for the children. They are filled with educational toys that foster physical, sensory, make-believe, creative and intellectual development.

EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT AND LEARNING is critical for the first 5 years of your child’s life. Having the different age groups for each program allows us to create an environment that will be most conducive to learning and development based on the age of the child. Bright Days has two custom curriculums, each one designed specifically for each of the age groups. This ensures that the learning and development that we offer at each Bright Days child care home is focused on the right stages of development for your child based on their age, as opposed to a “one size fits all” approach.

Childhood Educator with childA second language component is incorporated into the curriculum. Research shows that not only does learning a second language in early childhood demonstrate improved language skills and larger vocabularies in both languages, but children also show greater cognitive function, and problem solving skills. These are just a few of the many benefits! Learn more about our custom curriculums →

WE ARE PART OF YOUR COMMUNITY. Bright Days child care homes are located in Calgary, directly in the neighbourhoods that we aim to serve, as well as providing easy access from major commuter routes to downtown. We offer full time Infant/Toddler (ages 1–3), and Preschool (ages 3–5) programs at our child care homes. All programs run Monday to Friday, 7:30am–5:30pm. They are closed on statutory holidays as well as the week over Christmas. If one of our Early Childhood Educators is sick or away on holidays, we have many qualified, substitute Educators available. You will never have to worry about finding last minute child care due to an unexpected closure.

MINDFULNESS PRACTICES are incorporated throughout each day when implementing the curriculum, during meal and snack times, and during all interactions with the children as all Early Childhood Educators are trained Mindful Educators. We believe that there is no age too young to start learning and practicing mindfulness. Research has shown that mindfulness practice decreases stress and anxiety, increases attention, improves social- emotional skills, strengthens compassion, as well as many other benefits. HYGIENE AND CLEANLINESS is critical to avoid the spread of communicable illnesses. We understand that the sharing of germs among little ones is to some extent inevitable but we ensure that we do everything in our power to prevent it by maintaining the highest standard possible of hygiene and cleanliness at our child care homes. We pride ourselves on our personal, environmental, and food hygiene. You can learn more about our standards, policies and procedures under Health & Safety →

Outdoor play OUR ZERO SCREEN TIME POLICY is an important part of our development and learning philosophy at Bright Days. Extensive screen time in early childhood is shown to have lasting effects on a child’s language development, reading skills, and short term memory. But it’s not just what they are doing while they’re watching TV or playing on a tablet; it’s what they aren’t doing. Children are programmed to learn from interacting with other people. At Bright Days, your child will have the opportunity to learn through interacting with the Early Childhood Educator and other children throughout the day (with the exception of nap time or quiet time).

OUTDOOR PLAY EVERY DAY is another component of our custom curriculums. The outdoors is the very best place for toddlers and preschoolers to practice and master emerging physical skills. They can fully and freely experience motor skills like running, leaping, and jumping, as well as ball-handling skills like throwing, catching and striking. Additionally, it is outside that children burn the most calories and improve their physical health. This helps prevent childhood obesity, which has doubled in the past decade. However, the outdoors has something more to offer than just physical benefits. Cognitive and social/emotional development are impacted too. It improves communication skills and vocabulary (as they invent, modify, and enforce rules of games), numbers and counting (and they keep score), and social customs (and they learn to play together and cooperate). The changing nature of the outdoors makes it an incredibly stimulating and multi-sensory place to play. This is especially important as babies and toddlers learn and gain experience through all their senses.
